Intracoastal Outdoor Living
Location: Indian Rocks Beach, FL
Living Area: 900 sq. ft.
Scope: New construction
Story: This client knocked down a rental property to custom build. The lot was prime real estate on the Intracoastal, but small, so we built up. This resulted in an impeding front elevation, which we softened with mixed materials. The bottom is coquina (some the client harvested himself from local seashells) and the top is vinyl shake. Levels are divided with a scallop detail made from architectural foam which visually weights the bottom. A trellis, shutters, gas lanterns, copper and wood details complete the façade, sitting behind a driveway of artificial turf with pavers in a grid. For the outdoor living spaces, we got creative to maximize space and provide multiple opportunities for lounging, dining and entertaining. A conversation space off the stacking sliders to the living room includes a narrow privacy wall housing a TV/fireplace. Near the outdoor kitchen is the pool bath, a whimsical experience with a chalkboard wall, an octopus tentacle door handle, industrial lighting with nautical rope, and angled trim details. Downstairs on the tumbled marble deck is a bar integrated into the jacuzzi to allow for circulation around the perimeter while providing seating by the pool. The jacuzzi features glass tiles, hand-placed for an ombre effect. Pool features include underwater speakers and a multi-level sundeck with built-in fire pit. All of this adjacent to a low-maintenance lawn matching the driveway. The ledge dividing deck and lawn was painted bright blue as an added detail visible from the dock/boat. Materials/furnishings were selected to withstand the elements and salt air.
